Paul's Brats in Beer

  1              pound  bratwurst links
  1              stick  butter
  1              large  onion -- chopped
  12            ounces  beer

Melt butter in saucepan and saute onions until they are beginning to
caramelize.  Add brats and turn in fat until outside is no longer pink.
Add beer and let simmer, covered, for 1/2 hour.  Remove brats from
marinade.

Preheat grill to high.  Grill brats until slightly charred.  Meanwhile, if
you wish to use any of the boiling liquid as a sauce, boil uncovered to
reduce slightly.  Spoon onions and sauce over brats if desired.

NOTES : There's really no way to get an accurate carb count on this
        because you don't eat all (or any) of the boiling liquid, which is
        where all the carbs are.  If you don't eat any of the sauce, but
        only use it to flavor the brats, the only carbs are those of the
        brats themselves, generally about one per link.  If you use any of
        the sauce, the carb count for the whole recipe is 32, so divide
        that carb count for whatever portion of the sauce you use.
